The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the first electric car in the new Ioniq brand and is based on Hyundai Motor Group's specialized battery electric vehicle platform (BEV).
The new Ioniq 5 is a mid-size electric crossover that sets a new standard for redefining electric mobility with a plethora of sustainable and creative features.
Hyundai Motor Group's battery electric vehicle platform enables it to achieve unique proportions due to the extended wheelbase, as well as an innovative interior design, high performance combined with ultra-fast charging, and the Vehicle-to-Load function (V2L), without forgetting the advanced connectivity and assisted driving systems, able to offer buyers the best travel experience while also ensuring maximum safety on board.
The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 will satisfy the various demands of customers without any limitations, proactive taking care of passengers' needs during the voyage. According to Thomas Schemera, Hyundai's Executive Vice President and Head of Product Division, "this is certainly the first electric car to offer a new experience via the inventive utilization of interior spaces and modern technology."
The Ioniq 5's cutting-edge design reflects the bold personality of Hyundai Pony, the company's first production car, through a reworking of a timeless design. This concept will be explored as the Ioniq line expands. The vehicle's front end includes Hyundai's first clamshell hood and eye-catching, subtle lighting inside the front bezel. The retractable handles on the sides provide a sleek profile and increased aerodynamic efficiency. The new Ioniq 5's powerful look is enhanced by the strong form of the C-pillar, which was inspired by the Hyundai "45" idea.
The E-GMP platform has provided Ioniq 5 designers with unparalleled freedom, allowing them to build creative and flexible interiors. The flat floor beneath which the batteries are stored provides additional legroom while also producing a roomy interior characteristic of big sedans in the exterior dimensions.
Because of the longer wheelbase (3,000mm), Hyundai's designers were able to apply a 'Living Space' concept to the inside rather than a traditional approach. The "Universal Island," a moveable central console that can slide back and forward up to 140 mm, allowing for greater freedom of movement within the car, is a prime example.
Numerous internal parts, such as seats, roof covering, door trim, floor, and armrest, are created from environmentally friendly materials originating from sustainable materials.
Ioniq 5 comes in a variety of electric propulsion (EP) combinations to fulfill every mobility demand without sacrificing performance. Customers have the option of two battery sizes, 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh, as well as two drive configurations: a single rear engine or a front engine and a back engine. All traction and battery options offer an impressive driving range and a peak speed of 185 km/h.
The range of the Ioniq 5 on a single charge is 481 km in the mixed cycle and 686 km in the urban cycle when fitted with two-wheel drive (RWD), a 72.6 kWh battery, and 19-inch wheels.
The E-GMP platform is compatible with both 400V and 800V charging infrastructures: it comes standard with 800V charging capability and supports 400V charging without extra components or adapters. Using a 350 kW charger, the Ioniq 5 can recharge from 10% to 80% in under 18 minutes, resulting in five minutes to attain a range of 100 kilometers. Furthermore, the Ioniq 5 includes the novel V2L feature, allowing consumers to charge any electrical device, such as bicycles, scooters, or camping equipment, using the car's battery. The V2L function has a power output of up to 3.6 kW.
The new Ioniq 5 smoothly incorporates many innovative technologies capable of providing an enhanced digital experience. For example, the big adjustable split dashboard features a 12-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system and a 12.3-inch open digital display designated for the instrument panel, which can be modified based on driving modes. Furthermore, for the first time in a Hyundai vehicle, the Ioniq 5 includes an augmented reality Head-Up Display (AR HUD), which turns the outside environment into a display.
The Ioniq 5 is outfitted with a more sophisticated version of Hyundai's line of advanced "SmartSense" driver assistance technologies, ensuring even greater levels of safety and comfort on the road.
The Ioniq 5 is the first to include Highway Driving Assist 2. (HDA 2). The HDA 2 system manages the speed and safe distance to the vehicle in front using the front camera, radar sensors, and navigation data while maintaining the car in the middle of its lane for an even more comfortable driving experience. Highway Driving Assist 2 can also help the driver switch lanes. @via Hyundai.
