Rarely has a Kia model been as keenly anticipated as the EV6 GT, the brand's most powerful production model to date, which mixes extreme sports car driving dynamics with crossover and grand tourer features. And since the EV6's world premiere in March 2021, the EV6's triumph in the poll for Europe's "Car of the Year 2022" has boosted the number of future buyers who have been able to reserve the electric crossover in advance. As a result, no new reservations were allowed for the time being. That is changing immediately, as Kia has published the EV6 GT's equipment specifications and final price, formally launching sales. Buyers can now order the 430 kW (585 hp) model. The standard Kia EV6 GT starts at 69.990 euros and is decreased by the funding conditions in effect at the time of admission. The manufacturer's 7-year warranty covers the drive battery. As a result, the EV6 GT boasts one of Europe's most comprehensive manufacturer warranties for electric vehicles. Mass production will begin in September, and the first pre-orders will be sent to European customers by the end of the year.
"With the Kia EV6 GT electric car, Kia is setting new benchmarks in the crossover market". "Our brand is committed to becoming a top provider of sustainable mobility solutions. Kia's EV6 GT demonstrates that an all-electric crossover can provide driving enjoyment and exhilaration in unprecedented ways."
The nearly 4.70-meter-long, all-wheel-drive crossover is the fastest-sprinting model in the Hyundai Motor Group, to which Kia belongs. It is based on the new electric platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). It has a top speed of 260 km/h and accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. The capacity to rev is the key to the EV6 GT's high-speed technology: The two motors on the front and back axles may reach speeds of up to 21,000 rotations per minute. The front engine was inherited from the EV6. The new, revolutionary rear engine features oil-cooled "hairpin" stator coils and a two-stage inverter with silicon carbide semiconductors, among other things (SiC).
The dynamic, finely tuned, high-performance chassis impressively distributes up to 740 Nm of drive force and torque to the road. The low center of gravity of the electric car, precise steering, powerful brakes, electronic damper control (ECS), and electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD) all contribute to the intriguing driving dynamics. When the GT mode is engaged, the crossover's full sporting capability is revealed: It automatically picks the most dynamic setting for all drive and chassis systems and includes a specific drift mode that transfers up to 100% of drive power to the rear wheels, allowing for uncontrolled sideways movement. Using the "My Drive" feature
The Kia EV6 GT electric crossover is a modern grand tourer that combines high sporting performance with true long-distance capabilities. It can travel up to 424 kilometers on a single charge of the battery (combined cycle, according to WLTP). The Kia EV6 GT can also be recharged during a coffee break, thanks to the 800-volt ultra-fast charging technology, which only a few electric vehicles have so far: the 77.4 kWh battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. With the help of the navigation system, the battery preconditioning makes sure that when the crossover gets to the fast charging station, the battery is at the right temperature, allowing for the most efficient charging possible.
To benefit the EV6 GT's exceptional charging capacity, the Kia Charge charging service provides quick access to Europe's top fast charging network, Ionity. Kia is a partner in this extensive automaker collaboration through its parent firm, Hyundai Motor Group. Thanks to a partnership between Kia and the company Digital Charging Solutions, Kia Charge also gives you access to the more than 360,000 public charging points of the European DCS network. This includes almost all public charging stations in Germany.
Because the EV6 electric car already has an exceptionally dynamic design that has garnered the highest prizes, Kia has only made a few substantial changes to the EV6 GT's appearance. A unique front bumper with vertical design components emphasizes the GT's dynamism. From the side, the 21-inch alloy wheels accentuate the athletic character, while the neon-colored brake calipers emphasize the remarkable deceleration power. At the back, the athlete's custom-built GT bumper with diffuser stands out. Overall, the design revisions give the Kia EV6 GT a more robust appearance on the road. It is available in five exterior colors: Runway Red Metallic as standard, Snow White Pearl, Moonscape Matt, and Black as options.
The interior, which is made of high-quality materials, mixes sportiness with comfort. The black sports seats with a faux suede look and neon accents give you the most support no matter what you're doing while driving. The EV6 GT's performance is also communicated to the occupants acoustically: an Electric Active Sound Design (e-ASD) can create a virtual engine sound with the benefit of the standard Meridian sound system, which can be individually modified. The curving panorama display with the two 31.2 cm (12.3 inches) panels of the utterly digital instrument group and navigation system, which integrates the internet services of Kia Connect, is a distinguishing interior feature. They provide cloud-based online navigation, real-time traffic information, and the display of charging stations with facts on availability and compatibility, among other things. Data can also be sent to and from the vehicle via smartphone via the Kia Connect app, and many functions can be controlled remotely.
Despite its tiny exterior proportions, the Kia EV6 GT electric crossover has the same amount of space as a mid-range electric SUV, thanks to its 2.90-meter wheelbase. It not only provides plenty of room for the occupants, but the luggage compartment with a conventional ski gate has a capacity of 480 liters, which can be enlarged to 1,260 liters by folding down the backseats. Under the hood, the "Frunk" provides an additional 20 liters of storage space.
The EV6 GT's high-tech equipment comprises a variety of cutting-edge support technologies. This includes a navigation-based adaptive cruise control system, a highway assistant with lane change support, a blind spot assistant with monitor display and steering and braking intervention, a front collision warning with turning function and cross-traffic detection, an exit assistant, an all-round view camera, adaptive dual LED headlights that automatically adapt to traffic conditions, and a remote parking assistant that can maneuver autonomously.
Standard features include a head-up display with augmented reality (AR) functions, sensor-controlled electric tailgate, door handles with automatic flush function, solar glass windscreen, and front and rear side windows, privacy glazing (rear side windows and rear window), electric windows with impulse function on all four doors, sports pedals, ambient lighting, and two-zone automatic air conditioning. A motorized glass sunroof and a retractable trailer hitch are among the features on the shortlist due to the extensive equipment. Even though it is an electric sports car, the EV6 GT makes an excellent team vehicle because it can pull trailers that weigh up to 1.8 tons.
Furthermore, the electric crossover features a handy and uncommon feature: the basic "Vehicle-to-Device" function (V2D) allows you to draw power from the vehicle battery with an output of up to 3.6 kW. A standard adapter is needed to transform the vehicle's charging connection into a socket to which household appliances or e-bikes may be attached and which can even be used to charge other electric cars.
