Last year, the British car manufacturer MG Motor, now owned by China, sold 15,684 vehicles in Germany. This represents a 484 percent increase over the previous year when 3,239 new MGs were registered. The majority of the vehicles were electric cars.
MG Motor registered 4,518 new vehicles in Germany alone in the last month of last year. As a result, December 2022 will be the brand's best-selling month to date. MG is on par with established export brands, having sold over 15,000 units in terms of the annual balance sheet. In Germany, the brand reports a 1.9 percent market share for solely electric cars and 1.8 percent for plug-in hybrid automobiles in 2022.
"Over the last year, MG Motor has established itself as a powerful brand in the German automobile market. "We can be pleased of that," says Jan Oehmicke, MG Motor Europe's Vice President DACH. "The fact that over 15,000 models have been sold speaks for itself. Above all, they are evidence of our client's confidence in us. That makes me especially delighted. We've set our sights on 2023 and will expand our appealing model portfolio. I am certain that we can maintain the brand's great trajectory in the coming year."
Among other things, the new MG4 Electric hatchback model has contributed to the 2022 result with 1769 new registrations. The MG EHS compact SUV was Germany's most popular MG car in 2022, accounting for 6,415 sales, or over 40% of the brand's new registrations. The all-electric MG5 Electric station wagon, which went on sale in 2022, received 2,738 orders. Last year, the MG Marvel R premium SUV was registered 1,316 times, and the compact SUV MG ZS, also available as an electric vehicle, 3,446 times.
In addition, the business revealed that the network of MG Motor partners has risen by a quarter to nearly 130 agency and service centers in 2022.
