Revolutionising waste management: A closer look at the Scania 25 P hook loader for urban use

Scania P 25

The waste management company Münster is making waves in the industry by integrating sustainable and flexible vehicle solutions into their fleet. One such vehicle that is currently being put through its paces is the all-electric Scania 25 P with Meiller body, a hook loader designed for urban use.

With a payload of 14,450 kilograms and the ability to pick up all types of containers up to seven meters long, the Scania electric tipper is a leader in its class. It boasts a front axle load of 9,000 kilograms, allowing maximum use of the drive-related additional weight.

But what sets the Scania electric tipper apart is its minimized background noise. Dieter Möllenkamp, the vehicle's driver, noted that the noiselessness was entirely new and fascinating. With a diesel truck, he was already accustomed to gauging his speed based on the engine's volume, but with the electric truck, everything was much calmer and more relaxed. It took him about two weeks to get used to handling the electric dumper, but now he enjoys the peace and quiet during his early morning tours.

In addition to being quieter, the electric Scania has also meant that entire work processes have been reconsidered and flexibly adapted. Möllenkamp drives between 150 and 170 kilometers daily, starting his tour at 3 a.m. and heading to inner-city clinics and residential areas. After his 120-kilometer tour, the vehicle is charged at a mobile charging station with 40 kW (DC) during the break. After around 45 minutes, the battery is half full again, and Möllenkamp can start the next tour.

During winter, Möllenkamp noticed that the outside temperatures impacted the vehicle's range. The driving style also directly affects power consumption, which is reflected back to the driver much more directly with an electric drive than with a diesel. Speed, topography, driving style, and recuperation all influence power consumption.

However, despite these challenges, Möllenkamp enjoys driving the Scania electric tipper and notes that more and more of his colleagues are becoming interested in working with it. He finds that his work has become much more relaxed because the vehicle is quieter, and all tours are prepared accordingly with no bottlenecks in terms of loading capacity.

Scania P 25

The waste management company in Münster is committed to converting its vehicle fleet to low-emission technologies, and the employees are involved and engaged right from the start. The Scania electric tipper is just one example of how the company leads the way in sustainable and flexible vehicle solutions for urban use.

The Scania 25 P electric truck with Meiller body is an impressive example of the potential for sustainable and flexible vehicle solutions in the waste management industry. The minimized background noise, impressive payload, and ability to pick up all types of containers up to seven meters long make it a leader in its class. As more companies switch to low-emission technologies, the Scania electric tipper will surely be at the forefront of the industry.
