Fiat has recently introduced its new electric crossover, the Fiat 600e, inspired by the iconic 500 model but offers more space, technology, and range. The Fiat 600e is the brand's second all-electric model after the Fiat 500e, and it marks its return to the B-segment, where it competes with rivals like the Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro EV, and Jeep Avenger EV.
Design and Dimensions
The Fiat 600e is based on the same e-CMP platform as the Jeep Avenger, but it has a slightly longer and lower body, measuring 4.17 meters in length, 1.78 meters in width, and 1.53 meters in height. It also has a longer wheelbase of 2.6 meters, which translates into more interior space and comfort for the passengers.
The exterior design of the Fiat 600e is clearly influenced by the retro style of the 500e, with oval headlights, split tail lights, and a rounded silhouette. However, the 600e also adds some distinctive features, such as a large body-colored grille with a "600" badge, black wheel arches and rocker panels for a rugged look, and alloy wheels up to 18 inches in size. The Fiat 600e also boasts a drag coefficient of only 0.28, which helps improve its aerodynamics and efficiency.
One of the most striking aspects of the Fiat 600e is its color palette, which includes 12 shades, none of which are gray. Fiat has decided to eliminate gray from its range, as it considers it a boring and depressing color that does not reflect its cheerful and optimistic identity. Instead, the Fiat 600e offers vibrant and lively colors like red, blue, green, yellow, orange, and pink.
Powertrain and Performance
The Fiat 600e is powered by a single electric motor that delivers 154 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque to the front wheels. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in nine seconds and reach a top speed of 150 km/h. The electric motor is fed by a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides a range of up to 400 km on the WLTP cycle. The battery can be recharged at up to 100 kW using a DC fast charger, which allows it to regain 80% of its capacity in about half an hour. Alternatively, it can be charged at up to 11 kW using an AC charger at home or at public stations.
The Fiat 600e also features a smart energy management system that optimizes power consumption according to the driving mode, the road conditions, and the driver's behavior. The system can also adjust the regenerative braking level and provide eco-coaching tips to help the driver improve their driving efficiency.
Technology and Safety
The Fiat 600e is equipped with a range of advanced technology and safety features that make it a smart and connected vehicle. The dashboard features a seven-inch digital instrument cluster that displays key information such as speed, battery level, range, navigation directions, and driving mode. The center console houses a 10.25-inch touchscreen that runs the Uconnect infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The system also offers wireless charging, voice control, online services, and over-the-air updates.
The Fiat 600e also has several driver assistance systems that enhance its safety and comfort. Price and Availability
The Fiat 600e is already available for pre-order in Europe with a starting price of around $42,000. The first deliveries are expected to take place in September 2023. There has yet to be a word on whether the Fiat 600e will be sold in other markets outside Europe.
