According to a recent Forsa survey commissioned by the Gothaer insurance company, about half (53%) of German automobile owners would choose a vehicle with an alternative drive system if they were to purchase a new vehicle. The frontrunners are electric cars, which nearly one-quarter (23%) of buyers would consider when purchasing a new vehicle. The previous survey was five percentage points lower, at 18 percent.
As in the previous year, the petrol engine is the preferred drive type among those polled if they were to purchase a new automobile now (2021: 33%, 2022: 28%; diesel drive 2021: 15%, 2022: 12%).
Regarding the most significant aspects of auto insurance, the lowest price with no claims comes in first (73%). The second most important feature was the 65% discount for having numerous insurance plans with the same insurance firm.
In the event of a claim, nearly two-thirds (65%) of those polled prefer personal touch with a contact person as a method of communication, and this holds across all demographic and age groups. Communication by e-mail (27%) or smartphone app (19%) is likewise of above-average interest to those under 35.
In general, 25% of those polled are willing to alter their auto insurance. However, the vast majority of respondents (70%) said they keep their auto insurance the same. For those willing to change regularly, the situation is comparable to last year: 4% (2021: 3%) change their auto insurance policy every year, 12% (2021: 12%) every three years, and 9% (2021: 10%) every five years. This mood picture applies to people of all ages.
